The Tech Awards is a program of The Tech Interactive (previously The Tech Museum of Innovation) where innovators from any country are recognized for technological contributions which benefit the greatest number of people. The Tech has granted the awards yearly since 2001 to multiple recipients in each category, one recipient in each category also gets a cash award of $50,000 from any of various award sponsors.
In 2001 I began working with MediaTrope Interactive Studio and The Tech on the storytelling for The Tech Awards. I was tasked to create visual stories for each laureates from a script and voice-over. I obtained images and footage from each of the laureates over the course of the first couple months of the project which would need to be aligned to script. Inevitably there were missing assets that I needed create, animate, or find image stock to fill in the stories visual holes. In the process of collating all of the the assets, I would build 2, or 3 introduction visual prototypes based on a theme. The Tech reviewed and selected which design would be used for the production process. From that point on, it was a very organic journey of many long days of creation.
Below are the 5 final 2006 award categories which each have 5 laureate stories, 25 in all. One of the most inspiring parts of working on this project as a whole, was opportunity to learn about the wonderful things humans do for each other and to represent them in short stories.
